Bodegas Protos is one of the main producers of D.O. Ribera del Duero and D.O. Rueda wine, which is of high prestige and quality. Located in the new Bodegas Building, the facilities consist of a latest-generation design, which highlights all the stages involved in the production of wine and the tasting thereof. The building was designed by Richard Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (www.rsh-p.com), an esteemed contemporary architect and winner of the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2007. Some of his emblematic buildings are the Pompidou Centre, the Lloyd's Building, Barajas Airport and the Hesperia Hotel in Barcelona.
The project stands out for the difficulty in reproducing the effect of the façade using the double-glazed transparent screen, 10 cm wide, with a smooth, curved finish. It was also necessary to use subtle vertical aluminium pillars with polycarbonate joints between glass panels and a double top section to reach height requirements. Dividing cabinet walls finished in lacquered RAL9006 aluminium were used in the rooms and tasting areas, creating a large compartmentalised space which can also be used as a cabinet.
